THE AFTERMATH

THE AFTERMATH plays in postwar Germany in 1946. Rachel Morgan (Keira Knightley) arrives in bombed-out Hamburg during the freezing cold winter. She will once again live with her husband Lewis (Jason Clarke), a British lieutenant colonel commissioned to rebuild the ruined city. When they are on their way to their new home, Rachel realizes with astonishment that Lewis has made an unexpected decision: They will share the grand house with the previous owner, a German widower (Alexander Skarsgård) and his stirred daughter (Flora Thiemann). In this charged atmosphere, hostility and sadness are transformed into passion and deceit.
