Paris, September 1977: Maria Callas (Angelina Jolie) has withdrawn from the public eye for years. The legendary opera diva no longer sings and lives in seclusion in her vast apartment, hidden behind heavy curtains in a world full of memories. Only her loyal butler Ferruccio (Pierfrancesco Favino) and the cook Bruna (Alba Rohrwacher) remain close to her, both increasingly worried about their mistress’s health. When TV reporter Mandrax (Kodi Smit-McPhee) shows up, Maria Callas begins to bloom again. The interviews with the young man take her back to better, greater, legendary times. She decides to return to the stage one last time.
